Lifelong Learning – Surprise, Made a Pillowcase

20140329-145418.jpgMany of us get into a rut easily. We only do the things we know how to do and don’t go out of our way to learn anything new. If you have read our blog you will know we won’t let you settle for that!!

It is amazing that with enough curiosity we can learn to do anything. So today I decided to learn how to make a pillowcase. Luckily there is a store in town that teaches a class on how to make this. Why learn how to make a pillowcase? you say. I say why not? using the brain and eyes/hands to do something you never made before is quite energizing.

Showed up at the designated time and brought my fabric. I was ambitious to make an envelope pillowcase in two colors. Never had done this before and I was already thinking fancy thoughts. Teacher was great, she actually said I should do it. Going with my friend Jenni was nice – we had a blast of fun and left smiling with our cute pillow :)) Can learning a new talent get better than this!

So now that I successfully made my first pillow – I would like you to get out there and go do something for the first time!!

Walk To Your Health

Are you ready to come with me to take each day a walk just for your self and your health.

Keep your posture shoulders back and relaxed eyes looking forward and chin level.

Walk as you are late for an appointment.

To spice-up your walk walk at brisk rate to even burn more calories and help detoxify your body.

Pull your tummy muscles in to tone ABS.

Strike the ground with heel roll forward through arch of foot & push from toes.

Walk on sand, grass, gravel or snow.

Here we are keep going with blessings

For Sunday SURPRISE!

It’s great recipe for any time especially for tea time gatherings I can eat half of this yummm :)) and the only food I can’t resist anyway let’s make it!

500 gr. organic parsley, chard or spinach

6 yufka (special thin pastry for bourak)

200 gr. organic feta cheese

1 cup organic Greek yogurt

1 organic egg

1/2 cup organic extra virgin olive oil

1 cup mineral water

Optional ( salt, pepper and flaked red pepper)

Optional ( sesame seeds or black cumin)

Preheat oven to 180 C.

Wash and dice any green you choose.

Crumble the cheese with fork and mix it with greens.( If you will use the salt, peeper and flaked pepper add them and mix them as well)

In separate bowl mix yogurt, olive oil and egg well.

Grease the pan with oil take 1 yufka and spread it over the pan the pan should be smaller than yufka I used rectangle pan you can use round or and form you like just make sure it’s smaller than the yufka.

Spread over the yufka from yogurt mixture with help of brush.

Spread 2 more yufka’s  by wrinkling them and again for each one spread the yogurt mixture over.

Now spread all the feta and green filling all over the yufkas.

Repeat the yufka and yogurt spread by wrinkling the yufkas when you complete this take the corners of the bottom yufka and fold it over the top.

Cut the bourak in pieces if you still have yogurt mixture pour it all over the top.

Gradually pour the mineral water all over the top of the bourak.

Sprinkle cumin seeds or sesame seeds.

Bake it 30 min. or until golden brown on top.

ENJOY it warm or cold !

Less – More

I don’t know why we are waiting to not change our habits or many of us waiting until they get hospitalize or really forced to be changed. I think the smart way is to avoid to be hospitalized or forced as more ways as we can by what we are eating by exercising or simply drinking more water etc. and taking care ourselves our body’s to let repair it self we don’t need a special occasions to do this things because life is too short to not spend it on your physical or mental health. What we do more is what we became more.

I love this less and mores & would like to share it with you. 

Less sugar – More fruit.

Less meat – More vegetables.

Less soda – More water.

Less driving – More walking.

Less worry – More sleep.

Less words – More action.

Less stress – More relax.

Less cry  – More laugh.

Less garbage – More reuse.

& More Organic, More fair trade, More green for More healthy world = healthy you.

 

Spring Cleaning Inside-Out

20140308-141728.jpgSpring is coming and many of us starting to give the extra pounds away to hug the summer but how about the extra pounds in our homes and in our-lives that weights us much more than we think.

We can SURPRISE our minds our homes our lives and health to start with giving away those weights that we don’t need them anymore. Okay I know for some of us it’s very hard to give away something even we don’t need it we couldn’t basically to remove it permanently from our lives we are feeling we are stacked with those useless things or maybe we feel the more things we have around us we will feel safer or happier isn’t it?

But the truth is when you reduce things in your life you will be happier inside-out. Think about it how much time you spend cleaning your home when you have lots lots of things all around that you really don’t need they are just being there to keep and collect the dust for you and you have to spend your time cleaning them arrange them etc. So now start to think and select those things to give it to someone who really need it or save some money by garage sale or let friends know you have something you would like to throw it don’t say no if I won’t it they won’t it either because some times at the same time they can need something you don’t anymore just ask it will not hurt anyone if it will not benefit also when you help your friend you will help the environment as well.

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle or Give away.

Start from your closet and pickup the pieces they are hang there for more than 4-5 years you didn’t touch, wore or don’t fit anymore without spending too much time just put them to give away.

Continue with your living room is there anything you don’t use it collect them and put them some where you will not see them  for 3-4 months if you really don’t miss them or you really don’t need them it’s right time for last goodbye.

End with your kitchen let’s see how many things there unused or broken for couple of years and ask this questions to yourself am I gonna use it again? do I really need it? collect all and LET them GO!

Finally you will feel mentally and physically lighter healthier you will find more space around you that will not busying you but to help you to focus to concentrate to reduce the time of cleaning giving you extra time to cook healthy dishes, do some yoga, just go outside and take a walk or just relax maybe.

Think about it one more time is it worth to spend our lives our times around this useless things by not doing for ourselves this favor? Just letting them go.

Reduce to increase your life quality.

It’s not the quantity it’s the quality spend well for what you really need don’t buy a lot of junk just because it’s cheaper. Save all the money that you will buy the junks and buy something really that matters for you and for your health.

Oh Vitamix – where have you been all this time

If you have been following our blog, By now you probably know we are all about health, travel and fooood. So here is our latest discovery: Vitamix !! and no, they are not paying us to write this up. Seriously.

For several months now, been thinking about what type of juicer, smoothie maker to buy — so researched it, compared models/prices, asked around, googled, slept on it… in the meantime kept saving some $$ since it looked like this would cost a shiny penny if we wanted quality.

Ended up with Vitamix CIA Pro Series… it showed up this past weekend. And it has been paying for itself every single day!!

Here is a mini break down:

1. Smoothies used to cost about $6 for 8oz at health food store. Do the math – if you had one every day, or let’s say even every other day, that’s $1095 a year . Let’s say you make 2 smoothies that’s 2x$1095 — you get the idea. This is also NOT calculating for soups, frozen drinks and anything else you would make. Do we need to say more??

2. Unexpected but welcome benefit: dinners, and soups are made easy. Now we can make all sorts of soups; throw ingredients in Vitamix – blend, then eat or heat/ eat. Now we can also save produce before it goes bad by freezing it and using it in smoothies. It comes with a recipe book and dvd with lots of ideas. We have not read the book lollll – we were so excited just started tossing stuff in and experimenting. It is fun!!

3. Reinforcing eating / drinking raw fruit and veggies – making us healthier. It basically shreds through anything in seconds – yes even frozen stuff. It’s amazing! You want to be good to your digestive system this is one way of doing it. Also the body takes in more vitamins etc. since everything is liquified.

We don't recommend this to juice puritans… because you get the juice and everything else. If you only want juice, no fiber and pulp etc. this is not the machine for you. But because we researched extensively, if we were buying something just for 'juice' we would have bought a masticating juicer like Omega.

Here is a favorite smoothie:
1 red beet
2 medium carrots
few slices of ginger
1/2 of a red apple
1 banana
1/2 cup of coconut water

Put everything into Vitamix, turn it on and dial up to 5 for 2 min or less – voila!! Cheers to your health!

UPDATE 4/5/2014:
Been using the Vitamix daily, making an energy boosting smoothie has become a delicious morning routine. Also I recently bought pure Hawaiian Spirulina to use in my green and savory smoothies. At first I was using too much and did not like the taste :))) once I read the directions realized I only need one teaspoon!! My Vitamix journey continues… loving the results for my health, skin, and wallet $.

Oil Pulling – an Ayurvedic Ritual

It has been 3 days since I started doing ‘oil pulling’ and since I decided to continue at least for 30 days want to share this experience with you. After hearing about this ancient Ayurvedic health technique and my recent flue I decided it is time to use it. Natural ways of healing are the best and been used for centuries.

How to do oil pulling?
Every morning right after I wake up, prior to eating or drinking anything – I take a spoonful of coconut oil and swish it around in my mouth for 20 minutes. As I do my morning routines, stretching/yoga 20 minutes fly by. You must do 20 minutes or 10 minutes in morning and 10 minutes in evening. Doing less is not effective.

Here is what my spoonful of coconut oil looks like:

How does it work? What are the health benefits?

Prevents  bad breath

Strength gums, teeth, jaw prevents disease

Increases overall oral health

Relieves headaches

Supports kidney function

Whitens the teeth

Even at day 3 it is working for me; my sinuses feel better and my breath is very neutral – beats any mouthwash. Love using ancient methods to better my health. I will report back at the end of 30 days – stay tuned!!

UPDATE 3/18:
Yes I am still at it! every morning for 20 minutes. No my teeth are not whiter, at least that’s what I think, but my mouth has gotten healthier, and my skin is softer. The pulling has also consistently helped me clear my sinuses – at the end of 20 minutes, my sinuses release whatever is in there. Also the ritual has helped me do my morning yoga/stretches more consistently — nice to them at the same time. Will continue the practice, at least for 30 days and report back again.
