Holiday Gifting Edition

20131110-094133.jpg
We decided to share with you some of our favorite Holiday Gifting ideas. This is usually a wonderful time of the year but also possibly the most stressful – as many try to shop for gifts and worry about giving/not giving.

Giving starts with true care and knowing the people you are giving to. Some of the best things we received were not material gifts at all. Last year, one of the best gifts I received was a lavender eye pillow made by my good friend using lavender from her garden and stitching the pillow herself.

With a few ideas we hope to reduce your stress and make this a great year of giving:

1. Hosting a dinner or potluck
What can be more cozy and fun – we are social creatures. Giving from your time and opening your home to your friends is a great gift in itself.

2. Hand Made
Never gets old to make some of the gifts you are giving. In the process of it, you will even figure out who you care enough to handmade something for or not. We made ceramic owls this year for our nearest and dearest ones; some as desk ornaments an some hanging. See a few examples here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaBote

3. Care Baskets
This a new one for us. This year we are making care baskets filled with easy goodies to give for friends in need. Here are some of the items: gas card, crackers, cheese, fruits, home made cookies,… give practical things that will help them stretch their budget.

For more ideas, we have compiled some of our favorite sites:

Packing List

I found myself packing again this weekend. Traveling frequently enough teaches you new things. One of the most difficult types of packing is packing for business trips.

Here is what I have learned, besides my obsession with rolling everything (see previous post)… take a picture of your well put together outfits. Say you rocked it today and really like the outfit you wore – snap a picture so you have a virtual reminder. I often look at my pictures to recall what I wore and how I wore it. This makes packing really easy – you have a gallery of complete outfits you know will work All you have to do is roll them into your suitcase.

No matter what type of work you do… power suits to business casual to edgy fashion….applying this technique works and helps you pack less. When you are unsure and packing individual pieces you are bound to take more stuff with you.

So for my 3 day creative business trip to NY I am packing 4 outfits, 1 pair of boots, 1 handbag, 1 laptop, small cosmetic pouch, toothbrush, vitamins. What I am NOT packing; hair products or tools, multiple shoes, individual clothing items that are not part of an outfit, accessories for each outfit, food or snacks, etc. Less is more!

Here are a few of my favorite looks that inspire me:

So what does a shoe lover do when it snows like crazy??
She conquers it!

But we love fashion and our cute shoes – so we are still rocking them. Wearing warm boots like ugg or sorel on our way to work and errands… And we let loose indoors. Exhibit B:

The Gift of Andaman Sea

20130128-111038.jpgWe are in awe of the Andaman sea. It is like a giant hug: warm, wide, and welcoming.

The beach is broad, light yellow sand and clean, making it perfect for long walks. The surface is pockmarked with crab holes, and other sealife… making for an endless fascination.
20130128-111745.jpg
The water temperature is perfect; warm enough and cold enough for a good swim or lull in water. It is shallow for a few meters making it a relaxing swim.

For 3 days every evening rain clouds gathered and it poured… watching the sea and sky change, listening to the rain from the safety of the sheltered swings on our beach is priceless.

The Andaman sea rises advances every morning. As the afternoon rolls it starts slowly retracting. Love watching it and getting dizzy… we realized we have even forgotten what day it is!! This is the gift of Andaman sea.20130128-111130.jpg

The Journey Starts: all 26+ hours of it

Time flies and I found my self on the bus to O’Hare already. My sisters will be on their flights as well, in about 14hrs. Destination mystery! surprise! but you can tell it is far, will take 3 flights to get me there. For long flights like this having a mini carry on is a must with an extra change of clothes – just in case you feel like jumping out of your skin, you can jump into another outfit. My backup is ready – Lululemon yoga pants for comfort and support and a relaxed Splendid top.

Already figured out what our first act will be: drop the bags and head to the ocean!!

For now I stare out of the bus window to white snow flakes lazily floating down… and I feel grateful.

O’Hare
First leg is a direct flight to Istanbul. Long hours of reading, napping, reading, eating, stretching….

Then it will be on to another approx. 10hr. flight and another one… See you all at the beach!!

My travel partner for first flight: my trusted awesome Marc Jacobs bag that holds it all!! Lots of compartments and very practical while still fashionable 🙂
